Math isn’t always fun, in fact math is rarely fun, but it can be! Math activities that give kids a way to view math visually are a really inspired way to educate kids. These Halloween math activities use Scaries to promote math in a new and creative way by demonstrating simple statistics and data collection with yummy treats!
Using a fun treat is a great way to motivate kids to complete the activity! Kids would be sure to participate as long as they got to munch on the treats afterwards, just make sure that you keep an eye on them during the activity. You know, just in case they to sneak in a few bites before they’re actually done. It was pretty hard for me to resist the temptation of the Scaries while I was sorting and counting, and I even had to fend off my dad a few times!
You can even use candy to help your kids learn things that don’t include statistics or sorting and counting, like simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You can get them to add 3 candy’s with 4 candy’s and count how many they have afterwards (3 + 4 =7); for multiplication you can make 3 groups of 4 candy’s and ask them to count up how many they have (3 x 4 = 12). Simple things like that will easily motivate kids to participate in math.
